after crash during upgrade i see only desktop background

Update crashed and I had to reboot.

Came up with just the background. Cannot get the desktop to display in the foreground on top of the background. went of programs and selected desktop icon but they do not appear. so I assun=me I am not displaying t

Tried to add icon to desktop works but then never shows up on the screen. It is not a workspace selection problem.

reboot and nothing changes. where o where is my desktop?

Please open a terminal and type:

sudo dpkg --configure -a
sudo apt-get -f install
sudo apt-get --fix-missing install
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

and to reboot

sudo reboot

Then please at login please click on the circle icon at right to the login filed and select

ubuntu-2d

and made login
