The starter on the left side is to s,all for the big icons. The icon size should much more small min. 20x20 NOT 32x32 that's too big

Asked by Alexander Sell

Why Ubuntu made in 12.04 the restriction of the starter icon size 32x32.
That is much too big, because in height the display is smaller than in width.
And even my eyes are not perfect, but the 32x32 icons are only for almost blind people

Depends on the resolution you use, if you use 640x480 the icons will be massive.

You can adjust this in system settings->appearance->behaviour

Yes, you can adjust from 48x48, but not smaller tha 32x32 and this is still much too big!
In Gnome or KDE is the icon is abot 20 pixel in square and thats ok. But in unity, in changed from the botton to the side, where is less space than the horizontal width of the screen and additionaly the icons gedtting bigger.

If you haven't done it already, make the Launcher hide. That is usually the solution on a big screen. Otherwise, there is nothing more you can do. If you are still concerned, file this as a bug under ubuntu-bug unity.

Right now I have 26 icons in the luncher and I always need to scroll it up and down, because the icons are to big to fit all at one time. And I already posted that as a bug, that the size can not be adjusted more small. But the answer was, that this is only a personal opinion, not a bug,

In 12.04 it is much more easy. just right click on the desktop and set it smaller, But it is NOT possible set it to small. The smallest is 32x32 and that is still huge!
See there in the picture after, that is still for blind people!

20x20 would be great!

Then use the script on the page I gave and set it to 20....

The size of 20 is not working.
I think somewhere it's limited to 32 and not smaller.
That's why I think its more a bug than a personal opinion, that there is that huge limitation!

I can't believe, that I am the only one who like to have smaller icons...
