USB mouse causes lag when dragging windows

Asked by Torkill Strømmen

I've recently starting running Ubuntu 11.10, and I've found that when I plug a USB mouse into my laptop (Asus G74SX, if that's of relevance), dragging windows around starts lagging either immediately, or the second time I'm dragging it.

This does only happen on my USB mouse, and not with my touchpad. I've got both active at the same time, one causes lag, the other doesn't. I realise it might have something to do with the refresh/polling rate of the mouse, but I've tried playing around with that, to no avail.

Any help?

IN some laptop you need to select mouse only in your bios . It is posible also that the mouse you are trying to use with your laptop is not compatible with your touch pad mouse. Sometime you may need to turn off your touch pad mouse to use some mouse on your laptop.

I haven't tried in Unity 2D yet.

I have however tried with another mouse (Fatal1ty 1010 Mouse), and that's working fine. No window lag.
The mouse I use is the SteelSeries Ikari Optical Mouse, and it's as if it's not getting the mouse position often enough.

Alright, I switched to Unity2D and that solved everything. Still haven't figured out what caused the problem to begin with, but whatever it was, switching to Unity2D solved it.

Too bad I can't use Unity3D, 'cause I really liked some of the visual effects, but I'd rather have a functional OS than a bugged, pretty looking one.

Thanks for all your help!
