How to increase screen font size in Ubuntu 12.04?

Asked by mikehi

I am running 12.04 beta and need to increase the size of displayed screen fonts to 11 or 12 pt on a permanent basis. Most of my clientelle, including me, are older folks who need larger display fonts for viewing ease. Can't see how to make the display fonts larger.

Will be using 12.04 LTS in several machines when it becomes available.

Thanks for your help,

Mike

Since the question was assigned to unity some options:
Install
myunity (available in official repo)
http://www.webupd8.org/2012/02/myunity-30-released-with-new-gui.html
or
unsettings via ppa
http://www.webupd8.org/2012/03/unsettings-tool-to-disable-global-menu.html

To edit the interface manually install dconf-tools, run dconf-editor via alt+f2 and navigate to
org.gnome.desktop.interface

Thank you Sam. This will get the job done and I can get this PC out to a needy user who has come to really like Ubuntu. No wonder, when the alternative is microsloth.

Universal Access in Control Center allows you to select a text size, though only from fixed preset values and not on pixel/point level.
