No way to shut -down ubuntu 11.10 from desktop

Just finished upgrading to 11.10 however, desktop does not offer a means to restart or shut-down.

Do you have network shares mounted when it doesn't turn off?
Does:

sudo shutdown -h now

Make it turn off?

I'd report a bug stating the command works but the menu item doesn't
