Purple screen of death

as, i boot my pc only a purple screen is shown on desktop and it does not start .....
i had googled this problem and found a remedy of typing a command of modprobe piix and exit,it than boots but takes around 10 to 12 minutes.i have to follow the same procedure again and again whenever i boot.my current version 11.04 .hope my query will be solved......

Please don't post in all caps. It's harder to read and looks like you are shouting, so DON'T

Log in to Unity2D session and you will get a desktop. I assume you use an Nvidia or ATi based GPU which you can then install the proprietary driver for. Unity needs 3D acceleration to work which the open source driver is not giving you.

Before you log in, click the cog and select Unity2D and then log in
