Hi! Can you right-click on the desktop? If you can then create a launcher for Terminal. The command is gnome-terminal. Once you have it running, type 'compiz --replace' or 'unity --replace'. That should bring the panel and the menu back.

How about 'metacity --replace' (without the quotes)?

i found the solution , as i was unable to open even a terminal with command or in direct way then opened by pressing the key "ctrl+alt+F1 to F6" and then type the command "rm -rf .gnome .gnome2 .gconf .gconfd .metacity" and after this command i just restart the laptop and it worked for me fine . now i can see and use the upper panel and systray.

Thanks All for your help.
