Thunderbird menubar has gone

Asked by bill purvis

I have just upgraded to Oneiric, and migrated across from Kmail to Thunderbird.
It was a struggle to import all my archive of email messages, but I finally got that
done, but now the menubar seems to have got lost. I'm not keen on the new
GUI with menubars appearing at the top of the screen, rather than the top of the window,
but I'm feeling a bit stuck without a menu bar at all! Anyone know what might be
going on? Menu bars appear for other applications, just Thunderbird (so far).

I've tried moving the window close to the top left corner. 'Thunderbird Mail' appears in the
top strip, but no menu items.

Thinking about your suggestion gave me an idea - I ran

sudo apt-get remove thunderbird-globalmenu

and I now have the menu bar back inside the window! Much better!!
