All the windows positioned under top tool bar.

Asked by Albert Kuronya

When I open any application the top toolbar is overlayed on the toolbar at the top of Ubuntu. Therefore I cannot move the application window. Also for some reason I cannot resize the window.

Is there a way to fix this?

Is there also standard or sample setups for Ubuntu 11.10 to try different setups and not have to worry about conflicts?

Thank You

Double click using the left mouse button. This causes most applications to resize their window size, uncovering the toolbar at the top of the page and allowing resizes of the application window.

I just tried that. I still cannot move the application window because the two toolbars overlap each other on the top.

Is there a option to use the arrow down key with another key?

Anything to jog the application window down. I still cannot drag the corner of the window to resize.

move your cursor to the very top line where you see file, view, help, etc. double click that with your mouse.
the window will become undocked. you will notice this by looking for the small dot at the top edge of the application you're using. now click on the line that has the dot on it and drag the window to where you want it. however, the menu will still appear on the top of the screen. if you click on the top left corner, you won't be able to resize the window. you'll have to move the window around to expose the right side. it's best to use the bottom right corner to resize a window.

okay. it just happened to me that i couldn't undock an app.
what i did was use the maximize button that's on the top left corner of the screen to undock. it worked perfectly.

Hi,

Yes I have be able to undock the application window. The problem for me is that the top bar is under the Unbuntu bar so I cannot move the application window.

If say the Ubuntu bar was on the bottom or the screen then I would be okay.

Thank You

I think I found the solution for moving and resizing App. windows. In the Config options I went to window management and turned on Place Windows, Resize Window, Move Window, Put, Shelf and Snapping Windows.
So far so good. I am not sure if there is a default setting.
