Try to login then open a terminal by hitting CTRL + ALT + T. In the terminal run the command:
sudo apt-get install compizconfig-settings-manager
ccsm

then try to enable the Unity plugin.

If this not works try to run this command in the terminal:
gconftool-2 --recursive-unset /apps/compiz-1
unity --reset

Thanks,
The first opened a control panel, but I still can't get the launchbar to appear.
Is it called something different?

The second keeps giving me an non-existent file...error.

No, when you start ccsm you should enable a plugin called 'Ubuntu Unity Plugin'
