Just upgraded to Ubuntu 11.10 and display settings shows second monitor as Unknown.

Asked by Royce King

I have a second monitor hooked up with a VGA cable to my laptop and it was working just fine with 11.04, but ever since I have upgraded It won't recognize the second monitor. When I go into my display settings it just shows as "unknown".

Here is my graphics card info.

sudo lshw -C video; lsb_release -a

Does it work ok in the Oneiric liveCD?
Is it ok as another user?

Wow that was weird. It looks like it does work with another user, and now that I have come back to my user it is working. Any idea on why that would have happened?
