return to old Desktop display

Asked by Rajinder Sandhu

Dear Sir.
After upgrading to 11.10 all our desktop toolbars are not visible only left side quick launch bar is available how to revert back... also in 11.10 video behavior is sluggish... how to recover where as in 11.04 there was no such problem

would like to return to old display without quick launch... earlier on the toolbar we use to find system places applications all those things are missing in the new look... I prefer old was better.. suppose we have to clear the recent documents in the history.... Earlier it was easier... go to places and come to the bottom and click the delete recent opened pages now searching but finding nothing...
Thanks
Rajinder

You are talking about the Gnome 2 (i.e. the old desktop). we can't go back to that in 11.10, I mean as far as I know gnome2 is not supported in 11.10. Also looks like the issue is that your hardware does not support Unity . In that case you can install Unity 2D.

But for old desktop experience you can install cairo-dock. Go to software center and search cairo dock.
Else below link provides command line syntax

There is another way. You can install package "gnome-session-fallback" ,it will give you the old classic desktop in Ubuntu 11.10

For details follow below link
