pop up window hidden by unity, how to display it again?

Asked by SoloTurn

when an error occurs unity displays a popup window, e.g.

Unable to start new display
<some text>

if one "looses" this (i did not press the ok, cancel, or close button / window element), how can it be displayed again?

If its a dialog box with buttons it will still be there, maybe hidden behind and open window or minimised. If there's a new icon on the launcher for it you can just click on that (there often is) or you can use the task switcher which is invoked by holding the <alt> key and then tapping the <tab> key to cycle through available windows/applications.

@soloTurn by newest version you mean 12.10 alpha?

I get the problem with pop up windows (e.g setting windows) in 12.04. They will hide behind other windows. Selecting the program, that opened the pop up window in the first place, will not make the pop up window show in front. It will hide behind the 'mother program' as well, so simply selecting the 'mother program' from the Unity Launcher, is not a perfect solution.

I guess I can use the workspace screen action "show Windows" to deal with this for now tho.
