volume indicator not showing in Ubuntu 11.10

Laptop has to use an external USB audio adapter (internal is damaged).

I installed ALSA again for the external card and audio is working fine, but now the volume indicator is no longer visible.

How can I fix it?

I am using Ubuntu 11.10 (32 bit) with Unity 2-D on a Gateway MT3422.

I found a similar case in question #11517 answered by Cancellor. He suggested running the following command:

'sudo apt-get install indicator-sound'

I did that, restarted and now problem is fixed.
