Please help me to reset the correct system configuration

Asked by Fredi Panci

Please help me how to retrieve the desktop and the launcher, I have nothing on the desktop, and nothing is happening with keyboard shortcuts. I have only one bar on the upper side of the desktop, which on the left side of it there is a menu with: File, Edit, View, Go, Bookmarks, Help, and nothing else. I have not the user name logged on, not battery icon, and nothing else. I am not able to access any system settings or another application, I cannot assess the launcher and when I try to report a problem I get following error: The problem cannot be reported: This is not a genuine Ubuntu package. Meanwhile I am using the fresh copy downloaded from your server the last version of Ubuntu Ver. 11.10.
Any kind of your help shall be much appreciated.
Best regards!

Try to do this:
1. Login into Ubuntu
2. Open a terminal by hitting CTRL + ALT + T
3. Insert and run this command:
gconftool-2 --recursive-unset /apps/compiz-1
unity --reset

4. Restart, this should work.

If when you hit CTRL + ALT + T and nothing happen, do this:
1. At login screen select Recovery Console at bottom:

2. Insert and run this command:
gconftool-2 --recursive-unset /apps/compiz-1
unity --reset

3. Restart, this should work.
