some of the buttons in the sidebar have no images, the image is of a white window.
the power button on the right hand top corner of the desktop is not showing logout and shutdown.
the files and folder icons also have the white window image. including libreoffice files.

the guest login looks awesome! inference - problem with my login only.

hi,
out of the blue, the power button is now available, with the shutdown and logout options.
i did not click or change any options.

what's going on?

I'm having a similar problem-
Can't see the "power icon" and certain launch icons (terminal, help, system settings, home folder, trash) are blank.

They do show in Guest account.

Help?

while u experts workout the issues, i'm going to report 2 more issues.

1. the brightness setting
available under - system settings - screen

the keeps getting set to the maximum level
everytime i boot into ubuntu i reset it to an acceptable lower level, this did not happen in 11.04

hi experts, one more issue

all the above problems persist
the new one is: when unplugged, the battery consumption is unbelievable
the entire battery is drained out in 9 minutes.
this was not the case with all previous versions, including 11.04 and 10.10

I wrote this in in #873545 entry #14:

White icons and no logout button was my problem too after upgrading from 10.04 to 11.10 through the releases 10.10 and 11.04.

Found a solution by coincidence: had also a mismatch in wallpaper resolution and opened the select wallpaper (background) menu by right clicking on the desktop.

When clicking on the different themes I discovered that "Ambiance" and "Radiance" triggered the correct appearence to the white icons. And also showed the log out button at the clock.
Selecting the 'contrast' themes regenerated the white icons.

Can you help with this problem?
