mail icon on taskbar in unity

wondering if it is possible to remove the email icon in unity without messing something else up?

i have removed all related programs (evolution, U1, etc.), so there is no menu, just the icon

the "dead" icon bothers me, but if it is impossible to remove, then i'll just be bothered

It's provided by the indicator-messages package
Up to you if removing that package causes anything unwanted, try & see

it works!! beautiful...

previously, on other computers, whenever i messed with anything to do with the indicator bar i froze the system
