cant view task bar

I'm not sure if it has anything to do with when I updated Ubuntu earlier today (which failed because of some file) But I cant view anything on my start screen it empty there is just my background. The task bar has completely gone, I can only go on the internet through the help page (which has no sound). I access any of my files at all either. Ive tried looking for a solution but nothing seems to be working to get it back on.

If this happened just once, try to restart the gdm:

press ALT+F2, login, restart the gdm session: "sudo pkill gdm && sudo gdm %"
