How can I get my side launcher & Top Panel back?

Side launcher in Unity cannot be turn on/off. It will automatically hide when a window touches the left side. The Top Panel also doesn't have the option to be turned on/off. It would be really help is you tell me what's happened before it disappeared.
For now try one of the options:
1.reboot and see if it appears.
2. Ctrl-Alt F2 type unity --replace

Try look when GDM login page appear, and choose Ubuntu as desktop not xterm or UbuntuClassic.
