The version of Ubuntu you upgraded to would help.

I am unsure which version. But its the lastest version. I just need to know how to get my icons visable on my desktop. Right now when I log on it goes to my desktop and I can see any icons. So I am unable to get to my files or anything because there is no icon to click on in order to get to anything. Ho can I get my icons back on the desktop?
