Lost all my icons and menu bar in ubuntu 11.04

Lost all my icons and menu bar in ubuntu 11.04. My desktop froze and I couldn't do anything at all. I don't know where the "kill" switch keys are, so I turned off the power button to restart the computer. When it restarted all my icons and menu bar disappeared from the screen. Please help I'm only a beginner in linux

Try resetting the Unity. When you're booted to the Desktop, get into Terminal (Ctrl+Alt+T) and issue the command below:

unity --reset
