Unity Launcher isn't refreshing

Hi, I'm still a bit new to the community, so I'm not familiar with all the package and feature names;
To the right of the launcher in Unity (11.04) there is an area which the names of the programs appear on mouse-over. I am running Desktop edition 11.04 x64, and when I start a program or mouse-over a program icon in the launcher, the name and whatever was last occupying that space to the right of the launcher remains. (ex. open mozilla, then minimize, and the left ~2 inches are still visible on the desktop. same with any other windows.) I was running 11.04 desktop edition i836 earlier and there wasn't a problem. But the x64 version seems to. Any help would be appreciated.
