Unity: right mouse add to desktop does not work

Asked by Colin

I have been trying to make desktop shortcuts -I do not get an option to create with right mouse (or any options in application and create launcher from the desktop does not allow me to make a shortcut to games - all the games are spread through the applications they are not in a folder.
I tried browsing to games in the usr folder but I had to select just one game.
Is there a way to tidy up the applications short cut at the moment I get- Internet apps -more apps-media- find files-broese web -view photos- check email -listen to music when I click top left corner. This looks nothing like the pictures I see on the how to pages for ubuntu

I assume you are running ubuntu 11.04 (Natty)?

This is the design of the "unity" desktop -- it encourages you to use the search fields to retrieve your program launchers, rather than a folder heirachy.

You can go back to the "classic" desktop by disabling automatic login (if enabled), then selecting your username, and from the dropdown box at the bottom of your screen, selecting "classic desktop".

Thanks heaps - so easy when you know how- I think I may prefer the previous but it was getting frustrating trying to follow how to directions that did not line up with what I could see.
So quick to answer and my 4am syntax was very poor sorry, but you sussed it out anyway.
