WHY THE CAPS?

What exactly does it achieve? It looks like you are shouting, next time either take your finger off SHIFT or press CAPRSLOCK again. If you run:

gnome-session-save --logout

In a terminal, you can run a terminal easily with CTRL+ALT+T, then you will logoff

didn't realize caps were on, gave up and did a fresh install.
