unable to access another partition

Asked by David Hartung

Several hours ago I ungraded to Ubuntu 11.04.

I have all my documents in a separate partition which has, in the past, been accessible from both windows and Ubuntu. After the upgrade, I was able to access that partition one time. I have been unable to access it since. I rebooted to Windows to ensure that the partition was not somehow deleted. The partition is there, and usable. When I rebooted back to Ubuntu, however, it was again unavailable.

I just realized that I also cannot see the windows partition. In all the previous versions of Ubuntu I have used, the windows and data partitions have always been visible.

Sorry to keep posting messages, but as I find things, I post them. I went into disk manager. Both the Windows partition and the Data partition are visible there, but are shown as not mounted.

I have been able to mount my data partition by going into system settings and opening up something that requires that partition. There has got to be an easier way of doing this. If someone could point me to it, I would greatly appreciate it.

For the moment, I have resolved my problem by switching away from the unity desktop, back to the classic desktop.

While I still believe that there must be an easy way to mount partitions, at fist glance the classic desktop works better for me, given the manner in which I use my machine.
