blank windows after going from classic to unity in 11.04

Asked by dave s.

Installed 11.04 on an older Acer laptop. Ubuntu defaulted to "classic" before installing the recommended NVIDIA graphics driver. After installing graphics driver & Unity desktop activated, windows have no content. Opened Firefox, Software Center, and some other and no content shows in the open window. This also happened with when I tried the experimental (non-proprietary) graphics driver.

Thanks

Is the problem you're experiencing the same as described in bug 753144, or is it different?

When replying in a question on Launchpad, please remove the text of the message you're replying to, since including it is very confusing for people using the web-based interface (which includes almost everyone who helps out with questions).

If the description in bug 753144 matches the problem you're experiencing then, if you have not done so already, I recommend you go to the bug page, indicate that the bug affects you (by clicking the green "This bug affects..." link at the top of the page), subscribing to the bug to ensure you get email notifications when its status changes or comments are posted (use the green "Subscribe" link on the right side of the bug page), and, if you have information to contribute about the problem which has not already been posted, post a comment in the bug.

When you read through the comments in the bug, you might find a workaround for your problem.

I upgraded from 10.04, installed Nvidia drivers and experience the same problem. I removed the Nvidia driver, rebooted and received a prompt that hardware required to run Unity is not present. So now I'm back to Gnome classic mode.

I think there might be going on with Unity+Graphics Drivers.

It happens to me as well:
The window borders & control buttons disappear on already open windows, and new windows are just a white rectangle/square.

Ubuntu 12.04, using x-swat & intel driver (glasen) ppa's

Has anybody else experienced this with this X driver combo?

Can you help with this problem?
