How did you add the apps?
How do you mean by "launcher", just to clarify the question.

Thanks

The Launcher, apparently, is that string of icons which appears on the
left side of the screen when using Nutty in Unity Mode. I added icons to
it by dragging them from the list in Applications.
Are you telling me I can only drag them from Dash? That would be
ridiculous, beside not explaining why they sometimes do and sometimes
don't show at startup.
It's a nice system once you get the hang of it (I'm not a smartphone
user) and this is probably not the most important question in the world,
but I like to promote Ubuntu and this is likely one of the first
questions a new user would ask.

It might be useful to know I have installed "Weather-indicator". It also
doesn't appear at every startup. Right now I have all of my icons in
Launcher AND Weather-indicator showing, but that's not always the case.
Sometimes I have everything, sometimes I get one or the other, sometimes
I get neither and the icons that don't show in Launcher vary!

Is this useful? When I check after downloading updates with "Update Manager" I get this:

sudo apt-key adv --recv-key --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com 2EBC26B60C5A2783

You should also use software centre to remove the CD from updates.

That solved my "Update Manager" message problem, but the Launcher problem seems to have remained. The App icons survived only two of four restarts.
Time to submit a Bug Report?
