Unity launcher bar does not hide

Asked by Reik Schatz

I have the problem that my unity launcher on the left side of the screen does not hide anymore. The icon bar is stuck on top of the windows beneath it. Is there anything you can do to make it slide away? Really annoying when you cannot reach left-hand controls on the underlaying window. I have a Dell E6410 connected to a Dell Monitor U2711 running Twinview. The launcher is located and stuck on the big screen.

Yes, I know how to configure the launcher. My problem is rather that the Autohide stops working sometimes. The bar is just there forever, no matter what. I think something is buggy.

Try to open nautilus and drag'n'drop some file or directory.

@Maxim: this works. As soon as I drag anything to the launcher bar, it starts hiding again :) I think there was already a bug entered for that. Thanks a lot!

Same problem. The workaround works for me too. Where's that bug report?

Ah, I should've looked at the 'related bugs' caption: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/769703 Sorry for that.

Why, oh why don't they just implement a simple button to hide permanently if I want so, and show permanently if I want so, and autohide if I want so?

This stupid bar just stopped responding in the middle of working, and now what should I do, drag something on top of it? Why do they assume things will "just work", and they fail to implement simple buttons for simple actions?

gconftool-2 --type=int --set /desktop/unity-2d/launcher/use_strut false
gconftool-2 --type=int --set /desktop/unity-2d/launcher/hide_mode 1

Makes it hide
