Version 11.04 has icons on side bar that are inconvenient

Asked by kaphar on 2011-05-07

11.04 is a bit premature in a lot of respects. We are finding it hard to acclimate. The large icons (or any size icons) are a nuisance to deal with when opening an application, file or local disk. We would like to use a drop down list like other releases. This is not just a matter of getting used to the system, these are inconvenient.

Is there a way of placing the equivalent functionality on the top menu bar or in a drop down list? Also, is there a way of preventing a document going full screen when opening an application. We find it difficult to click on the top every time we want to close a window.

Thanks for listening and we hope for your help. Regards and thanks in advance

Log off, click your username then at the bottom, change the session to Gnome Classic, then log on. It will log in to the same desktop as previous releases.
