Hello,

YES! I too had this exact same problem a couple of days ago after upgrading to natty. This is due to your graphics card no having 3D video acceleration enabled and this basically means you might not have the correct video card drivers installed.

**a) find out which specific chipset your graphics card uses for example Nvidia or Radeon etc

**b) try and find out which specific driver Linux (natty) needs for your card to work

Here is how I got this problem fixed. No.1 run the update manager in Natty Narwal 11.04 and make sureb you have all the latest updates for your machine.

No.2 Go to "Additional Drivers" which I think is found in system. Run additional drivers which then searches and if it finds a driver it might be the one your looking for but check of course. You may need to activate the driver if it finds the right one. i.e. asks for your admin password to authenticate it. Then it installs it and you will need to reboot.

No.3 After the reboot you now should have the correct driver installed for your machine. But you still will need to goto the software center and find UNITY 2D and install this and again reboot and now after the reboot you should have Unity fully installed and working.

Hope this helps?

PS: If you have an Nvidia graphics card you can also source the driver (yes! a linux version) directly for their website.

I have the same problem with a three year old Acer Extensa 4420.

The drivers are: 01:05.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: ATI Technologies Inc RS690M [Radeon X1200 Series] [1002:791f]

I did an update but nothing new shows up in the additional drivers section.

Strange but once in a while it will boot into Unity but not very often.

Any advice? Bob.
