Blank desktop - no menu bar etc

Asked by Rob_57

I just upgraded to Ubuntu 11.04, which was working fine. I began trying to amend desktop effects (desktop cube etc). I must have made an incorrect selection, as all I have showing now is my desktop wallpaper. There is no tool bar or any other means in order to access "System", "Preferences" etc. to change my settings back to what they were. I have spent a couple of days playing around trying to find a solution, but to no effect. Please help. Signed: fat fingers.

For me was similar, but i just deleted all compiz and gnome folder on the users, because skype was not showing in the notification area. I had to logut and login many times and trying to choosse the new format of the desktop layout. after several times of try could get a new desktop (Old Version, cause i dont like the new one, I find mac desktop too slow to have to wait for the icons to show up and then find it and then scroll or whatever).
Finaly had to reconfigure but now is fine skype shows up in the notification.
What i found its that the Windows in the open programs panel are not able to be moved in order, this anoyes me so much.

Hi
Go back to question 155542 I had the same problem and in box (#3) this worked for me, there seem to be a major conflict with the cube, which I had always used and found very useful, not happy with the way it is going with 11.04.

Reset Unity but error "Unity not installed". Installed Unity and interestingly this also installed Compiz.
Compiz seems no longer a piece of eye candy but an essential part of Unity.
Still heaps of errors, so re-installed 11.04.
