Desktop Doesnt Show after Login

I Boot Ubuntu 11.04 it goes to login screen lets me type password then goes to the backround never loads any bars menu's or anything running a dual Operating system with windows vista and that logs in fine and windows works perfectly i have a amd athlon x2 which says is 64 bit on sticker on case but vista is factory set at 32 bit. new to linux any suggestions

Can you choose in the login page at the bottom to choos the desktop to use, ubuntu classic, ubuntu, ....
have you tried that?

Please use punctuation when you write. Thinks not english native speakers read this, and it makes things worse.
Check if proprietary driver is activated and used if you have Nvidia card.
Boot on second line "Recover" then "sanfailSafeX" and then change windows manager from "Ubuntu" to "Classic without effects".
If Nvidia, go to System->Administration->Nvidia Settings and force rewriting of configuration.
This worked for me.
