Launcher sticks instead of fading after I open Skype

I just today installed the new distribution of Ubuntu. When I open Skype, the launcher on the left hand side locks into place and does not disappear when I move my mouse away from it. I'm using a netbook so I need all the screen real estate I can get... Please help!

If you run it from terminal, is it ok?
How did you install skype?
Does it work ok for other users?
