I upgraded to 11.04 and now my screen only shows the wall paper and nothing else

Asked by Forteshw

As the subject says I updated my system this morning and now when ever it starts up the only that is visible is the background. I fell asleep while it was upgrading so I'm sure if that helps or not. Is there any possible way to fix this? Also I am using a netbook as well so I dont know if that factors into things

Great. Run:

nautilus -q; gconftool --recursive-unset /apps/panel && killall gnome-panel

Does it help?

I have the exact same problem on a Dell Mini netbook. That command came back with gnome-panel: no process found

No that didn't work. I had the same result as the above poster.

Ditto on my MSI Netbook, for problem and fix in terminal.

As an aside if you still wish to use the Internet, ctrl-alt-delete, help, page- get help online: this should open a browser.
(i know there probably is an easier shortcut, but i'm new to ubuntu..)

If I go to the terminal and type in "unity", then hit enter. Wait about twenty seconds, then my desktop icons all come back and all my files, pictures....etc are all there. everything works great. The problem is if I reboot I have to do it again. I'm sure someone can figure this out....right?

Can you help with this problem?
