How to uninstall / get rid of Launchpad

Asked by Váczy Zoltán Kristóf

Hi All,

Is there any way NOT TO USE Launchpad under Ubuntu 11.04 (ie. replace with the traditional style taskbar and ubuntu menu)?!

I am extremely disappointed about the little flexbility and visibility it offers: I believe the developers have been lost at concept level by thinking that everyone are using tablets / netbooks only...

A number of issues I am encountering:
- size, appearance and position cannot be changed
- open applications cannot be made visible on a taskbar or similar place
- no icons can be placed on the desktop anymore
- window buttons will switch to left side, regardless of metacity settings (I prefer them to be on the right side)
- in general: any systems with screens offering adequate vertical space the alterations are USELESS and against productivity.

I am sorry that I needed to express such dismay, but this far Ubuntu developers at least have offered a choice to users and did not forced them use such solutions, which were completely uncomfortable, unproductive and - on user level - unchangeable.

Please provide some guidance in regards of removing this or confirm that it cannot be done, that I can get rid of the whole system then.

Many thanks.

Log off, select classic desktop and log in. You don'y HAVE to use Unity.

Can you help with this problem?
