enable unity desktop

Asked by Patrick Kennedy

I just installed Ubuntu 11.04 Natty but disabled Unity. While Unity has some interesting features, it seems like a feature that newer users might like. I prefer a more direct GUI feel. With Ubuntu 10.04 and 10.10, I could press the Win key (with tab?) and move thru fullscreen previews of each running application. How can I reinstate the Win key behavior to allow for this standard (and very cool) Linux feature? I went to "System \ Preferences \ Keyboard Shortcuts" menu, but can't seem to find the right option.

log off and choose the classic desktop after you select your user. You will then be on the traditional desktop UI. May help

To disable Unity or compiz desktop effects with Ubuntu 11.04

- If you are logged with Unity interface

Please Logout.

Then click on your name.

See the the task bar at the bottom of the Log In screen?

It might say something like "USA" "English" "Ubuntu".

Click the 'up/down' arrow by "Ubuntu" and simply select "Ubuntu Classic" or Ubuntu Classic (no effects).

- you can also change your use interface settings using terminal:

so please open a terminal by click on terminal icon on the left Unity toolbar

or

press ctrl + alt + t to open a terminal and type:
