Unity doesn't display icons until mouse moves over them. ATI

Asked by NikTheGeek

Hi, just installed Ubuntu 11.04 on 2 machines. 32bit on an Acer nettop with Nvidia graphics and 64bit on my main machine using an ATI Sapphire 256mb card.

On the ATI card, the graphics don't work as expected.

I get the Unity launchbar ok, I can click on Applications and a window pops up showing 5 icons and a text saying "See 75 more results". When I click on that, an empty window appears with no icons listed at all. However, as I move the mouse, icons will show up under the mouse cursor and then stay once the mouse is moved a way. So I have to wipe my mouse across the screen to get all the icons to show up and then scroll down and repeat. Also, scolling down takes a very long time and the pc becomes sluggish. Close the window and the pc behaves as normal.

The other pc, the nettop with Nvidia is fine.

Any ideas? :)

Nik

This might or might not be related to your video card / drivers. I recommend that you report this as a bug in unity (by reproducing the problem, pressing Alt+F2, and running ubuntu-big with the PID of the running unity process). Before reporting any bugs, you should read https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs. (After you read that, among other things, the above technical advice will make sense.) As explained on that page, you should search to see if the bug has been reported already, before reporting it yourself (and if it has, then you can indicate that it affects you and, if applicable, provide missing information.)

After reporting the bug, you can use the "Link existing bug" link near the top of this page to link this question and the bug to each other. That's a good thing to do, but your bug report should nonetheless be complete and self-contained--it should not be necessary for the Ubuntu developers to visit this question page, in order to fully understand and appreciate your bug report.

Correction: "and running ubuntu-big with the" --> "and running ubuntu-bug with the"

Can you help with this problem?
