unity panel applet

Will applets be implemented in the unity panel ? Like for example in the gnome panel, where the user can add applets such as sleep inhibit, cpu monitoring, weather and so on ?

No, not for now and assuming never.
GnomeShell also didn't think it's worth it.

A great application you can install is Cairo-Dock. It has applets within itself, like weather, disk space, etc, and it looks and works way cooler than Gnomes' panel.

The extension question is when will Gnome and Canonical listen to users?
