I just installed Ubuntu today. But my laptop background do not show anyting. i have to randomly click to the left top corner to get browser.

I just installed Ubuntu today and first ever for me. But I do not see anything on the laptop's desktop background. I have to randomly click the upper left corner to get something going, including hitting the internet browser. please help me how to get my laptop to show folders and features. Thanks.

try Ctrl+Alt+T or Alt+F2
if any of these work type gnome-panel

and can you please add the hardware for your machine
like the display card

I solved the problem. It turned out that I downloaded the netbook version instead of the required desktop version for my laptop. After re-work everything is fine. Thanks.
