media scanner doesn't scan mounted folders

Asked by mhb

hi
i've installed ubuntu touch on my nexus 4 using dual boot. one of the few things that makes me boot to android is that i can't access my files (the ones in android). however i used 'sudo mount --bind /userdata/media/0 ~/android' to bind my data and now i can see it using the file manager. i tried binding my music folder with ~/Music/android but apparently the media scanner doesn't scan mounted folders. is there a way around this ? it would be great because i could also bind my pictures and videos...

Can you not add the folder to your list of folders for the library to scan.

The applicarions don't care that the folder is being used as amount point. It is completely transparent.

Check you have read access to the data and the aplication should see it.

well the music app doens't have a option to add the folder so i have to mount it inside the music folder(i think) . i do that as well but it still doesn't recognize it
here's how i mount it:
$sudo mount --bind /userdata/media/0/Music ~/Music/android
$sudo chown phablet:phablet ~/Music/android
$sudo chmod 777 ~/Music/android
so the owner is phablet and it has read permission. i've also tried opening it through file manager. if i open a file outside the mounted folder music app plays it. if i open one inside it the music app does come up but it doesn't play anything

Please don't throw 777 around so losely. You can and will make issues.

What file system are you mounting? Ext2? Ext3? FAT32?

thank you ...
both folders are mounted with the same options... it should read it but it doesn't
/dev/mmcblk0p23 on /home/phablet/Music/android type ext4 (rw,relatime,data=ordered)
/dev/mmcblk0p23 on /home type ext4 (rw,relatime,data=ordered)

Can you help with this problem?
