Unity, regular version or 2D version, are full of bugs (which by the way are not the same!). The basic features such as move between workspaces, show windows, show desktop ... do not work properly.

Moreover, it takes 30 to 40% more computational power to run, making my PC (a Samsung NC10) almost unusable. How can you think we need a 1.6 GHz core to run a simple user interface layer?

All of this was acceptable for the first version 11.04 but certainly not acceptable for the second version 11.10. How can you release such a distribution full of bugs? This is a real shame given the quality of Linux kernel and most of Linux applications.

I have understood you were talking about new features for next Ubuntu release but you miss the point. Fix the bugs, optimize your code before you even think about implementing new features.

Given all of this; I am about to give up Ubuntu for another distribution.

I have also undersood you want Ubuntu to be used on tablets or smartphones. With such buggy and not optimized code, you will never make it. You clearly do not know what is a mobile platform. MHz is mA!!!

Ubuntu 11.10 is arguably the wrong OS for the NC10. You might like to try Lubuntu on that machine. It's still a 'buntu but the Lxde interface is very light and so are the standard packages that are installed. It uses Chrome instead of Firefox.

I've installed Lubuntu on my EeePC 901 and am quite happy with the way it works - it does everything that I need it to and the OS has a very small footprint and runs very fast.

There was an update that came through for network manager, so you should update your system completely as soon as you've installed Lubuntu as I consider quite an important update.

You can always go back to the old Gnome front end
see

Or if that is still too slow for you change to Lubuntu as suggested by Chris

Can you help with this problem?
