USB not mounting or drivers not present

I have an HP Presario, my windows crash so i replace the hard drive and decided to install Unbuntu 10.4 when I plug in USB devices they receive power for the USB port but they do not mount to my system. I believe my USB driver aren't present. how can I fix this problem?

Did you remove the hardware properly when you last used it (using safely remove / eject)?

only thing I removed was the hard drive. USB ports have not work from point of install so I didn't have a remove or eject option when I initially plugged my phone to the USB

Yes but did you safetly remove it or did you just unplug it from the system?

I unplugged for the system didn't see any option to eject or unmount it never appeared on the system

Then that's why. There is a proper way to remove devices from ALL OSes.

If you simply wrench the device from the system you risk data corruption as well as the device being marked as dirty. This causes devices to not automount in Ubuntu.
