Will Bug #441835 get fixed?

Asked by Alan

The problem of 'Clicking on floppy gives "no device media found" ' (Bug #441835) has persisted for well over a year and through three releases (Karmic, Lucid, Maverick). Including of all things a "Long Term Support" release. The few developers who have checked in leave the impression that they have little interest in solving this problem stating that floppies are obsolete and they have trouble finding computers with floppy drives to work on.

Floppy drives, and their use, do not seem to be unusual among Ubuntu's user base. Try doing a few searches in Ubuntus's user forums or on Google. Ubuntu's even marketing make a point of it's suitability for older machines. So I'm puzzled by the seeming lack of interest in keeping such a commom and still widely used piece of hardware working.

If there is not enough interest or will to fix this problem you should let people know by labelling it as a "Won't Fix". This will allow to at least avoid a reputaion of "Cant fix' and the damage this can do to the Ubuntu brand.

Hi Alan,

I don't thing that bug should be closed as "wont fix" just because there isn't --official-- interest in solving it.

Ubuntu, is a open communinty and chances for some one willing to fix it are big. It doesn't mean that an employee of Canonincal should take valuable time into solve such obsolete feature. It means that anyone with free time and enough knowledge may come into scene and provide a patch for it.

Sadly mounting a floppy drive is too unfrequent and trivial to be a *real* issue.

If you have interest on this issue it would be nice for all the ubuntu community that you take some effort in trying to fix this issue as seems that is important for you :-)
