Unable to configure dual monitors

Dell dimension 9100 standard intel double processor chip 4G mem .. nVidia gforce8series
Running UbuntuStudio 13.04
For both Audio and graphic work it is nice to have two monitors. Unless they are matched it is necesary to configure them. Niether ARandR or setting manager Display are able to do this adequately.. was able to accomplisg this by installing the old Nvidia driver but subsequently the system would not start. Tried restore and update.. each failed. Total reinstall seems to have worked but am wondering if there will be some fix to Nvidia current drivers for this old card.
