Ubuntu One

Asked by Luke Torode

Hi,

I have been playing around with Ubuntu one as a file storage alternative to dropbox as it integrates great with Ubuntu.

I have installed the Ubuntu files apps on my iPhone and android tablet and have all my pictures synced perfectly across all devices.

The problems I'm having is that Ubuntu one on my mobile devices does not show any preview thumbnails next to each image file so I have no idea what each photo is. Is this something that has yet to be implemented in Ubuntu one or is there a setting somewhere?

My other issue is that I can't just view any files in Ubuntu one without downloading it first, in Dropbox all files can be viewed without downloading first. Is this something that can be changed?

Then you should report a bug

Dropbox keeps the files local on the system as well as on the remote storage, so you kind of have all the data 'downloaded' as it is already on your system

There is no setting. We will look into this, thank you for your feedback.

Actionparsnip's answer applies to desktop only. Allow me to explain further in the mobile context: "in Dropbox all files can be viewed without downloading first" - that is not true. Dropbox on PC works similar to Ubuntu One. Dropbox on mobile downloads files, and only in case of photos, it fetches a preview/thumbnail, rather than the original file. So, while the preview is much smaller in size, it does download files in the background into the cache.
