What is "End process" button to the lower right of GNOME system monitor?

What is the "End process" button to the lower right of the GNOME system monitor really doing? It seems to me it's rather a kill button than an end process button. If so, that's a bit misleading compared to the wording in the right-click menu where it distinguishes "end" and "kill".

"End process" = force process to finish normally

"Kill process" = force process to finish immediately
