13.10 do-release-upgrade caused downgrade to 12.10

Asked by Robert Nelson

I decided to upgrade the desktop to the new 14.04 release and ran sudo do-release-upgrade. Went though all prompts and once done removed the unneeded packages. Once the script terminated it said I needed to reboot, obviously. Once rebooted the system failed to start x with a Radeon UVD error. It was at this point I noticed the Welcome to Ubuntu 12.10 Quantal Quetzel above my log in prompt.

Has anyone else had a downgrade occur on 13.10 Desktop when attempting do-release-upgrade?

I'm currently running that script again to see if I can get back to 13.10.

ETA:

I've been able to successfully 'do-release-upgrade' to get back to 13.04 from 12.10.

You could try

do-release-upgrade -d

Or wait for Ubuntu 14.04.1 to be released on 24 July which is when 14.04 will start being offered for existing 12.04 LTS users.

Or burn a DVD and install from that.

Can you help with this problem?
