After upgrade to Ubuntu 12.10 cannot access desktop

Asked by Edmond Condillac

I hope that my request for your kind advice and helps reach's you as my email address (<email address hidden>) has been mistakenly de-actvated.

The system boots showing Xubuntu 12.10. Then the Ubuntu screen appears, but no log in features show. However, BleachBit opens. Then a dialog asks for entry of password for keyring 'default' to unlock. There appears an alert message regarding a crash report that " an application has crashed". Among the numerous additional details the following have been noted:
1) Ubuntu has experienced an internal error
2) Executable Path: /usr/share/apport/apport checkresume
3)Package linux-image-3.5.0-24-generic3.5.0-24.37
4) Problem Type: Kernel Oops
6) Failurew Suspend/resume

Your kind help and advice are most appreciated to help me with this problem.
Best regards

How BleachBit opens if you cannot access the Desktop ?

BleachBit as far as I know is a GUI program that wants a desktop in case of opening.

Can you provide some more info ? From a terminal (CTRL+ALT+T) .. execute the commands below and paste here FULL results

lspci -nnk | grep -iA2 vga

echo $DESKTOP_SESSION

lsb_release -rcd ; uname -rm

cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log | grep -e EE -e WW

dpkg -l | grep -ie nvidia -ie fglrx

Thanks

Hi
Thanks for looking into my request for advice & help. The problem only occurs when I log in to the Ubuntu (Default) Desktop Environment, This does not happen after logging in to the two available alternatives : Xfce Session nor Xubuntu Session.
The output from executing the commands in a terminal is as follows:
edmond@Dell:~$ lspci -nnk | grep -iA2 vga00:02.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Intel Corporation 82845G/GL[Brookdale-G]/GE Chipset Integrated Graphics Device [8086:2562] (rev 01) Subsystem: Dell Device [1028:0160] Kernel driver in use: i915

I would be most grateful for your kind help. After booting from the available non-CDROM device options in the Boot Device Menu, the Desk top Environment opens without any icons nor the Applications Menu, which usually appears along the left of the screen. However, BleachBit opens for deletion of unwanted files. Then the dialog box asking for the password to unlock the "default" keyring appears. next a message appears informing to click the notification icon to download available software updates. But there is no notification bar showing at the top screen margin. Lastly a message appears informing that a program has crashed and to click the notification icon for details. All that is visible after booting is the desktop wallpaper with none of the Desk top icons. I have tried to access the CLI terminal with Ctrl+Alt+T hotkeys but there is no response. Likewise no command prompt console is available, having unsuccessfully tried Ctrl+Alt+F1 hotkeys.
Kindly help and advise how to recover the Desk top Environment so that the PC may be logged into.
Best regards
