w vivek and uptime show two running users on my system

Asked by joseph barham

just checked w vivek and uptime in my terminal and am showing two users. i am the only one using this computer. why would two users be listed? does this mean someone else is logged in that i don't know about?

~$ w vivek
 13:45:46 up 1:17, 2 users, load average: 0.27, 0.17, 0.18
USER TTY FROM LOGIN@ IDLE JCPU PCPU WHAT

~$ uptime
 13:45:52 up 1:17, 2 users, load average: 0.23, 0.16, 0.17

You may be the only user, but you can also SSH to the same system and run 2 sessions as the same user. One in the GUI (TTY7) and the other on the CLI (TTY2 probably). Linux is a tRUE multi-user OS, unlike Windows and this is fully possible.

Can you help with this problem?
