Switch off icon is not showing in the panel.

everytime i have to awitch off, i have to press the switch button.

1. Open a terminal (CTRL+ALT+T) and enter the following commands, post the output back here

lsb_release -a; uname - a

2. Is this a new install? If not what has changed? Have you upgraded the version or installed new software for example.

In 12.04 look at the top right corner of the display where there is a symbol by your name. Click on that symbol and at the bottom there is a shut off switch.

Or you can fill in the following in Terminal:

 sudo shutdown -h now
